  • What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and self-defense system that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It emphasizes technique, leverage, and strategy over size and strength, making it effective for both kids and adults regardless of physical ability.

  • What is the Samurai BJJ teaching style?

Our classes emphasize practical self-defense, technical skill development, and fitness in a supportive environment. We focus on progressive learning, where students master fundamentals before moving to advanced techniques, ensuring confidence and safety at every step.

  • Do I need prior experience to start training?

Not at all! Our beginner-friendly classes are designed for people with no martial arts background. We teach fundamental movements, positions, and techniques step by step so everyone can feel comfortable and progress at their own pace.

  • Do I have to sign a long-term contract?

No. At Samurai Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, we believe training should fit your life—not lock you in. All memberships are month-to-month, with no long-term contracts. To cancel, all we ask for is 30-day notice. For as long as you maintain your membership, your monthly tuition will not increase. If you need to take a break, you can pause your membership for just $30 per month, indefinitely, and return to training whenever you’re ready.

  • What should I wear to my first class?

For your first class, comfortable athletic clothing (like a t-shirt and shorts or leggings without zippers) is fine. Once you enroll, you’ll need a BJJ gi (uniform) and a rashguard for no-gi classes. We’ll guide you on where to get them if you don’t have one already.

  • Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu safe for kids?

Yes. Our kids’ program focuses on discipline, respect, confidence, and physical fitness in a safe and structured environment. Techniques are taught in a controlled way, and safety is always the top priority. Kids also learn how to defend themselves responsibly.

  • How does Samurai BJJ support beginners and advanced students?

Beginners receive step-by-step instruction to build a strong foundation, while advanced students are challenged with high-level techniques and strategies. Our structured curriculum ensures everyone progresses at their own pace, from white belt to black belt.

  • How often should I train to see progress?

Consistency is key. Training 2–3 times per week is a great starting point for both kids and adults. You’ll build skills, improve fitness, and see steady progress. More frequent training is always welcome as long as your body feels good.

  • What makes Samurai BJJ different from other schools?

We combine a world-class martial arts lineage with a family-friendly community. Students benefit from structured curriculums, personal attention, and a balance of traditional values (discipline, respect, perseverance) with modern training methods.

  • Who is the head instructor at Samurai Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Our head instructor, Andreh Anderson, is a 4th-degree black belt under Master Rey Diogo of the legendary Carlson Gracie Team. With over three decades of training, competition, and teaching experience, he brings authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu knowledge directly to Prosper, Texas.

  • Why is lineage important in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Lineage connects students directly to the roots of the art. At Samurai BJJ, our lineage flows from Carlos Gracie → Carlson Gracie → Rey Diogo → Andreh Anderson. This direct connection ensures that our students learn authentic techniques and philosophy passed down through generations of champions and masters.
